Most Anticipated 2009 Releases

Next year has the possibilty of being one of my favorite years of music. Most of my staple bands are releasing new albums with Andrew Bird being the first to release his newest LP Noble Beast on January 20th. Some other bands with upcoming releases include:
Wilco
Flaming Lips
Band of Horses

Anyone else pumped about a release coming next year?

  1. 2008 had me pretty excited, Atmosphere, The Black Keys, Elbow, Ben Folds, Cold War Kids, and it followed through pretty well. It's always the newer bands or surprise second comings that make it a successful year in the end.

  2. I haven't looked ahead much yet. Off the top of my head I'd say I'm looking forward to Animal Collective and Band of Horses.

I didn't know the Flaming Lips were coming out with a new album. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. Their last one was pretty bad.

  3. OD, You didn't like At War with the Mystics? I thought it was a pretty solid Lips album. It was no Yoshimi, but fun nonetheless. Vein of Stars, YYY Song, and the WAND are all great songs to hear them do live.

  4. I really didn't. WAND is a cool song, and there's one other I like, but I can't remember the name of it. But the rest of the songs, I find myself just skipping through them. Of all the albums I have from them, Mystics is my least favorite. Soft Bulletin is by far my fave.

Which of their albums do you have? There are 11 in total. The only two that I would even consider being better than Mystics are Yoshimi and Bulletin; the other 9 are pretty terrible. Between Mystics, Yoshimi, and Bulletin, I agree: Mystics is the worst. That, however, is not to say that it's not good. In fact, it's really good.

In summation, in regards to their entire discography, Mystics is one of their best albums.

The new Ben Folds album is pile of dogshit.

In 2009, I'm most looking forward to Detox.

  6. Mystics
    Clouds Taste Metallic
    Soft Bulletin
    Transmissions from the Satellite Heart
    Yoshimi

You could make an argument that Mystics is better than Clouds Taste Metallic; that one's not all that great either.
